China Study Tour 2010
Alberta and China enjoy a long standing relationship and continue to build connections and ties in the area of international education. The Office of Chinese Language Council International/Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban), one of Alberta’s priority education partners in China has once again generously extended an invitation to Education to have Alberta senior administrators participate in a China study tour. Participants will leave for China on October 15, 2010 and will return to Canada on October 23, 2010.
This year, Alberta’s senior jurisdiction administrators will have the added benefit of joining a much larger, Canadian delegation for the first part of the visit. This will provide additional dimensions for peer learning, information sharing and networking with colleagues from other provinces.
The program will focus on Beijing and one other Chinese province. Alberta delegates will visit Beijing and Chongqing, owing to the success of the 2009 Superintendents study tour. Delegates will be given the highest form of welcome by the Chinese government: a reception at the Great Hall of the People. As in the past, Hanban will cover accommodations, transportation and meals within China.
Within the context of a larger, Canadian delegation, Alberta numbers are limited to 18. Invitations have been extended to those jurisdictions with membership in the International Education Advisory Council and/or with current offerings or interest in initiating Chinese language programming in its schools. Priority consideration will be given to those jurisdictions that went on last year’s tour with plans to build on relationships with Chongqing. Additional spaces will be considered by the date (and time) of e-mail notification.
